This story tracks a simple five minutes of my son's day in his special needs nursery, and examines
the complex combination of yearnings and acceptances that occupies the other 23 hours and 55 minutes
of this and every other day for our family. It explores the world of special needs, complete with
its horribly dark corners and sun-drenched cathedrals. I am currently at work on a full-length memoir.

This beautifully written and moving poem examines what a child's diagnosis does to a parent. Its insightful
observations and raw honesty are striking. Thank you, Janice, for your permission to include it, and
thank you, Lauren, for bringing it to my attention (and thank you both for a good cry
that I guess I needed!).
