The Sonoma Diet:
Here are my requirements for a diet book: it has to allow for my very limited cooking skills, it has
to be reasonably healthy, and it has to jolt me out of ordering in 5 times a week (and going out
the other 2). This is the book! My husband lost 30 pounds and I lost 10, and we've kept it off
for a year. Portion control, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and only whole-grain carbs, and
the all-important glass of wine a day, which has not only helped our waistlines, but also our general outlook
on life.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
My 15-year-old nephew, Kai,
re-reads the entire series before a new one comes out—I can't think of a better review
than that.

A Slant of Sun:
As this author describes her son's PDD diagnosis, she explores the definition
of "normal" and struggles to help her son without destroying his essence.
This thoughtful, insightful and beautifully-written memoir remains on our bookshelf,
and we often find ourselves re-reading passages.

Born on a Blue Day:
One of the most incredible things
about this author is that he has a social ease that defies his Asperger's diagnosis. He
sees numbers in his head not just mathematically, but as landscapes: beautiful,
engaging, passionate visions.
My son, who has mild autism, draws shapes
with unabandoned delight and then announces triumphantly: "triangle!"—
perhaps he too sees the textures and colors that Tamet writes about so beautifully.
